Rep. Houchin applauds passage of secure America Act, boosting border funding through 2029

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09) announced her support for the newly enacted Secure America Act, a legislative package designed to fully fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) through the next three years.

The bill, which was passed by House Republicans and subsequently signed into law by President Trump, allocates $38 billion for ICE, $26 billion for CBP, and an additional $5 billion for operational needs through 2029.

According to Rep. Houchin, the funding surge is a direct response to what she characterized as four years of open-border consequences under the previous administration, citing record illegal crossings, human trafficking, cartel operations, and the influx of fentanyl into local communities. Proponents of the legislation argue that the $69 billion total investment will provide federal agents with the essential resources needed to enforce immigration laws, dismantle cartels, and deport criminal illegal aliens.

The bill passed despite strict partisan divisions in Congress. Last week, every Senate and House Democrat voted against the Secure America Act.

“The men and women of ICE and CBP put themselves in harm’s way every day to stop human trafficking, intercept dangerous drugs, remove criminal illegal aliens, and protect American families,” Houchin said, adding that she was proud to back the legislation.

To engage with constituents on the matter, Rep. Houchin’s office has launched a digital survey asking residents of Indiana’s 9th Congressional District whether they support federal funding for ICE and CBP.
