160,000 pounds of Farm Rich Pizza Cheese Crunchers recalled over potential metal contamination

INDIANA — A voluntary recall has been issued for more than 160,000 pounds of a popular frozen pizza snack distributed across 21 states, including Indiana, due to concerns that the product may contain fragments of metal.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Buffalo, New York-based manufacturer Rich Products Corporation initiated the voluntary recall of 6,408 cases of Farm Rich Pizza Cheese Crunchers on May 19, 2026. The recall is gaining widespread attention following the FDA’s formal classification of the incident as a Class II health risk.

According to federal guidelines, a Class II designation means exposure to the product could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, though the risk of serious or life-threatening injuries is considered remote. Food safety experts warn that consuming hidden metal fragments poses a direct threat to dental damage, mouth or throat lacerations, and internal injury if swallowed.

While initial reports indicated the snacks might be present on local grocery shelves, Rich Products Corporation issued an official clarification statement to distinguish the impacted supply chain.

The company confirmed that the specific lot involved in this recall was distributed exclusively through commercial foodservice channels—such as school cafeterias, institutional kitchens, and hospitality providers—and was not packaged or shipped for retail consumer purchase at grocery chains. No standard retail consumer items are affected.
