INDIANA — The American Red Cross issued an urgent nationwide appeal today, June 8, 2026, warning of an alarming drop in scheduled blood and platelet donations in recent weeks.

With the arrival of summer heat, vacations, and end-of-school-year disruptions, donation appointments have plummeted. Compounding the risk, June 1 marked the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, a time when severe weather can easily force the sudden cancellation of community blood drives.
To prevent critical shortages on hospital shelves, the Red Cross is pleading with donors of all blood types to book appointments immediately.
To encourage immediate participation, the Red Cross is offering national thank-you rewards for everyone who steps up to donate during the month of June:
- $15 E-Gift Card: Anyone who comes to give blood or platelets between now and June 28, 2026, will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice.
- $7,500 Grand Prize: June donors will automatically be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of two $7,500 gift cards.
Upcoming Blood Drive Schedule (June 8–28, 2026)
The Red Cross has scheduled dozens of donation opportunities across Southern Indiana, Western Kentucky, and Southern Illinois over the next three weeks.
