BLOOMFIELD — The Indiana Small and Rural Schools Association has officially announced that Bloomfield High School teacher Bri Karazsia has been selected as the 2027 Indiana Farm Bureau Rural Teacher of the Year.

The state-level honor is awarded annually to an exceptional educator whose classroom impact, leadership, and community dedication reflect the absolute best of rural education across Indiana.
According to the association, Mrs. Karazsia was chosen from a competitive pool of nominees based on an outstanding, long-term track record of excellence. Administrators and peers praised her for bringing a unique blend of energy, deep care, and professionalism to the school district every day—helping students feel genuinely supported while holding them to high academic expectations.
In smaller, rural school districts, educators are frequently called upon to wear many hats. Colleagues noted that Mrs. Karazsia manages these shifting responsibilities with immense grace, purpose, and excellence. She instructs a wide range of age groups, teaching students from the 7th grade all the way up to graduating seniors.
Her daily instructional portfolio spans across multiple disciplines, including English, Humanities, and History. A defining hallmark of her curriculum over the years has been a strong commitment to integrating writing across all subjects and connecting classroom assignments directly to real-world scenarios.
Beyond her standard classroom duties, Karazsia serves as a vital bridge to higher education for Bloomfield students. She leads the high school’s collegiate preparatory efforts, teaching rigorous dual-credit courses across four separate academic departments in partnership with the Ivy Tech Community College and Indiana University Advance College Project (ACP) programs.
The selection committee heavily emphasized that Karazsia’s impact stretches far beyond the walls of her own classroom. She has earned widespread respect from fellow teachers, administrators, local families, and the broader Greene County community for her consistent professionalism and willingness to mentor new incoming teachers.
“The Indiana Small and Rural Schools Association Teacher of the Year recognition honors educators who demonstrate exceptional service, leadership, and commitment in Indiana’s rural schools,” the association noted in a statement. “Mrs. Karazsia’s nomination reflects the incredibly important role rural teachers play in creating strong schools and strong communities.”
By continually investing in her peers and building meaningful, lasting relationships with her students, Karazsia has made a permanent contribution to the positive culture of the Bloomfield School District.
With the state title secured, Bri Karazsia will advance to represent the state of Indiana as a nominee for the National Rural Education Association (NREA) Rural Teacher of the Year.
As part of the honor, she will travel to San Antonio, Texas, this fall to attend the National Conference from October 19–21, 2026, where the national winner will be announced.
