WASHINGTON — In celebration of the upcoming United States Semiquincentennial, the United States Mint has announced the release of the 2026 “Enduring Liberty” half dollar. Available for one year only, the commemorative coin features a complete redesign honoring 250 years of American independence and its founding principles.
The special half dollar is part of a broader, year-long initiative by the U.S. Mint to mark the nation’s milestone anniversary through an array of special coins, medals, and design overhauls to most circulating U.S. coinage.

Numismatists, collectors, and the general public can obtain the circulating-quality coins directly from the U.S. Mint. The coins are being packaged and sold in two distinct options: a two-roll set or a bulk 200-coin bag.
A Design Focused on the Future and Education
The 2026 coin features entirely new artwork on both sides, replacing the standard John F. Kennedy profile that has occupied the half dollar since 1964.
- The Obverse (Front): The face of the coin features a striking portrayal of the Statue of Liberty. Sculpted with a steadfast gaze, Lady Liberty looks outward as if looking directly toward the future of the republic. The front bears the essential inscriptions: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the national motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the dual-date anniversary marking “1776 ~ 2026.”
- The Reverse (Back): The reverse side of the coin captures a symbolic passing of the torch. The artwork depicts Liberty handing her lit torch to a new generation, its flame trailing backward to signify the momentum of a shared American purpose.
Beyond the standard legal tender inscriptions of “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “HALF DOLLAR,” the reverse also features a profound historical quote: “KNOWLEDGE IS THE ONLY GUARDIAN OF TRUE LIBERTY.”
The unique 250th-anniversary coins are expected to be highly sought after by collectors due to their limited, one-year production run. Production will cease at the end of 2026, making these sets a permanent piece of the nation’s Semiquincentennial history. Additional product details, pricing, and official release dates can be tracked via the United States Mint’s official website.
