BLOOMINGTON – Bedford North Lawrence’s girls track season concluded during the IHSAA regional on Tuesday night.
Paige Voigtschild came agonizingly close to a qualifying spot for the state finals as she settled for fourth in a photo finish during the 800 meter race. The top three in each event advanced to the IHSAA state meet at North Central in Indianapolis on June 5.
The Stars finished tied for 22nd (along with Mitchell) in the team field with five points. Bloomington South claimed the team title with 139.
Voigtschild clocked 2:15.58, missing an automatic advancement by .39 seconds. The state meet will include 30 entrants from the eight regionals, which means she will be watching to see if her time is good enough to earn an invitation.
The rest of BNL’s contingent fell back in the pack of their respective events.
Lily Mishler was 13th in the 400 (1:04.81) and 16th in the 100 (13.58), Madalyn Mason was 15th in the discus (93-0), and Ashlynn York was 16th in the 3200 (13:31.87). Zoe Shelton competed in the high jump.
The Stars also settled for 13th in the 3200 relay (Voigtschild, Gracie Simmerman, Madison Chandler and York crossed in 10:58.25) and 13th in the 1600 relay (Mishler, Alaina Fish, Voigtschild and Simmerman combined to post 4:25.89).
For the Bluejackets, Marissa Blais was seventh in the 100 hurdles (15.95) and ninth in the 300 hurdles (47.93). Kaylynn Kohlhaas took sixth in the discus (113-10) and ninth in the shot (34-3). Mitchell’s 3200 relay (Rhilyn Slaughter, Rhilynn Fountain, Eleanor Fountain, Khloe Cline) was 15th in 11:17.73.
