BLOOMINGTON – Rogers Street will temporarily close beginning May 26 for the construction of a pedestrian crossing for the new Powerline Trail. The closure is expected to last through June 7, 2026.
The project is part of the Powerline Trail construction and involves the installation of a raised, ADA-accessible pedestrian crossing on South Rogers Street just north of the vehicle entrance to Switchyard Park. The crossing project will also include curb ramps and a pedestrian-activated traffic warning device. The new crosswalk will facilitate the safe crossing of Rogers Street to Switchyard Park and the new Powerline Trail.
Because of the work, Rogers Street is anticipated to be fully closed between May 26 and June 7. During the closure, the Rogers Street entrance to Switchyard Park will be accessible only from the south. The Switchyard Park parking lots at Grimes Street and South Walnut Street remain open and unaffected.
The 0.9-mile, 12-foot-wide Powerline Trail will include a trailhead west of Rogers Street with bike racks, benches, and trees. The trail will follow the utility easement west, connecting Switchyard Park, RCA Community Park, and the Osage Place neighborhood.
Contractor Monroe, LLC began staging equipment at the project site in April. Parks and Recreation is coordinating with the contractor, the City, Monroe County, and Switchyard Park event planners to schedule the closure during a time intended to minimize impacts to park access and traffic.
Construction of the Powerline Trail is expected to be completed later this year.
