New Albany tops BNL in HHC consolation

BNL’s Emma Conover and the Stars fell to New Albany in Thursday’s HHC consolation round.

BEDFORD – New Albany conquered Bedford North Lawrence 4-1 in the consolation round of the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament during girls high school tennis action on Thursday.

The Bulldogs swept the doubles en route to their win in the final round of the event.

Elizabeth Miskuf recorded the lone victory for the Stars, topping Stella Lozier 6-3, 6-4 at No.2 singles.

”This was a hard-fought match for our girls,” BNL coach Jennifer Edwards said. “Zee came away with a win after a tough match the day before, playing smart, composed tennis throughout. I’m very proud of her effort.”

New Albany’s Ena Sikes survived a challenge from BNL’s Bailey Fisher, finally posting a 7-5, 6-4 win at No.3 singles, while Katie Sullivan defeated Emma Conover 6-3, 6-0 at No.1. In doubles, Callie Loesch and Mary Ryan stopped Jada Key and Forum Patel 6-2, 6-0 at No.1, while Nora Meadors and Hallie Hamilton rolled past Claire Edwards and Emma Voris 6-1, 6-1 at No.2.

“Bailey made key adjustments and battled to stay competitive until the end,” Edwards said. “Our doubles teams faced strong opponents, but they showed great resilience and never gave up.”

BNL (0-14) will host New Albany for an immediate rematch on Saturday.
