BLOOMINGTON – Bedford North Lawrence ended a five-game skid with a 5-3 victory over Bloomington North during high school softball action on Thursday.
Karsyn Coleman fired a second straight complete game in the circle, striking out six while allowing only one walk. Sara Williams had two hits and Bella Warren drove in two runs for the Stars (7-19).
”Karsyn pitched really well,” BNL coach Brad Gilbert said. “She threw strikes and had them off balance. We also played good defense. Bella caught a ball against the fence, Jaden (Schofield) and Sophia (Jewell) made nice running catches. So it was nice to put a whole game together.”
BNL took control with four runs in the second. Kali McKee singled, Taylor Pruett walked, and Kadynn Canada dropped a bunt single to load the bases. Jewell drew a RBI walk, Schofield beat out an infield single for another run, and Warren chased home two runs with a sacrifice fly.
”We got refocused,” Gilbert said. “We put the ball in play, made things happen, and scored some runs. We stayed patient and scored enough to win.”
The Stars added another run in the fourth as Adalynn Bailey drew another bases-loaded walk. BNL was issued eight walks, helping make the most of five hits.
The Cougars (2-13) battled back with two runs in the fifth as Brylee Moore stroked a two-run, two-out single. But Coleman retired the final six batters. Jocelyn Parrish had two hits for North.
Williams had four stolen bases as BNL totaled eight overall.
BNL will host Northeast Dubois on Monday.
