East rolls to 4-1 win over BNL in HHC consolation

BNL’s Emma Voris combined with Claire Edwards for a win at No.2 doubles on Wednesday.

COLUMBUS – Columbus East conquered Bedford North Lawrence for the second time this season, posting a 4-1 win over the Stars in the consolation round of the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament during girls high school tennis action on Wednesday.

The Olympians repeated their earlier victory at BNL on May 4.

BNL’s win came at No.2 doubles as Claire Edwards and Emma Voris recorded a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Zoe White and Stefani Christopher.

“Doubles got a good win,” BNL coach Jennifer Edwards said. “They had high energy, good teamwork, and great communication. They had a lot of fun playing the game too, which is what we love to see. If nothing else comes out of this season, we want these girls to develop a love for the game of tennis.”

East swept the singles as Lauren Degner dropped Emma Conover 6-0, 6-1 at No.1, Olivia DeBarro bounced Elizabeth Miskuf 6-0, 6-0 at No.2, and Bruna Carreira stopped Bailey Fisher 6-0, 6-1 at No.3. The Olympians also took No.1 doubles with Ava Tartt and Audrey Bush defeating Jada Key and Forum Patel 6-0, 6-0.

“Bailey’s match score doesn’t indicate how competitive she and her opponent were,” Edwards said. “Bailey has shown so much improvement in her playing and in her mental game these last two matches.”

BNL (0-13) will finish the HHC tournament by hosting New Albany on Thursday.
