Monroe County Democrats to host monthly meeting at downtown library

BLOOMINGTON — As the 2026 election cycle shifts into high gear following the May primaries, the Monroe County Democrats are inviting the community to their first monthly meeting of the year. The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 24th, at 3:00 p.m. at the Monroe County Public Library.

The meeting serves as a critical kickoff for local organizers and residents looking to sustain the momentum from the recent primary races. Held in Room 1B&C of the downtown branch (303 E. Kirkwood), the gathering is open to the public and welcomes veteran activists and curious newcomers alike.

A primary highlight of the afternoon will be the attendance of various Democratic candidates. This provides a direct platform for Bloomington and Monroe County residents to share their concerns and hear firsthand from the candidates seeking office in the upcoming general election.

“Whether you’re brand new to getting involved or have been organizing for years, there’s a place for you here,” the organization stated. The meeting aims to be a hub for:

  • Networking: Connecting with fellow neighbors and community organizers.
  • Action Planning: Learning how to volunteer for upcoming campaigns.
  • Engagement: Discussing the local issues that will define the 2026 ballot.

Organizers noted that the timing of the meeting is particularly convenient for attendees. With Indiana University’s graduation ceremonies concluded, downtown traffic has eased. Additionally, because the meeting falls on a Sunday, parking in the library lot and the surrounding city meters is free.

For those looking to “plug in” to local politics, this meeting marks the start of a busy season as the party prepares for the road to November.
