One Hour to Save a Life: American Red Cross issues urgent call for May blood donations

INDIANA As the school year winds down and Hoosiers gear up for summer vacations, the American Red Cross is reminding residents that just one hour of their time can lead to a lifetime of impact for patients in need.

In a press release issued May 6, 2026, the Red Cross urged donors to book appointments now to help the blood supply stay ahead of “seasonal pressures.” As schedules become packed with graduation parties and travel, donation appointments typically drop, creating a critical need for all blood types and platelet donors to step forward.

To thank those who take the time to give during this busy transition month, the Red Cross is offering several “thank you” gifts:

  • May 1–17: Donors will receive a $20 Amazon Gift Card via email.
  • May 18–31: Donors will receive an oversized Red Cross beach towel (while supplies last).

Upcoming Blood Donation Opportunities: May 6–31
