Bedford Lions Club marks 75th year of Pancake Festival with strong turnout despite chilly weather and threat of rain

BEDFORD — A long-standing community tradition continued Saturday as the Bedford Lions Club hosted its 75th Annual Pancake Festival at Thornton Park Pavilion, drawing more than 1,600 attendees despite unseasonably cool temperatures and the threat of rain.

First held in 1950, the festival remains one of Bedford’s longest-running events and serves as a key fundraiser for the local service organization. This year’s event raised approximately $9,000 in profit to support a variety of community service projects led by the club.

Residents and visitors alike gathered throughout the morning and early afternoon to enjoy pancakes, sausage, and drinks, either inside the pavilion or through a convenient drive-through option that has become increasingly popular in recent years.

Members of Scout Troops 332 and 333 played a significant role in the event’s success, assisting Lions Club members with food preparation and serving guests. Volunteers worked steadily to keep lines moving and ensure attendees were served quickly despite the steady crowd.

While the weather presented challenges, community support remained strong. The turnout reflected the festival’s enduring appeal and its importance as both a social gathering and a means of giving back.

Funds raised from the event will go toward the Bedford Lions Club’s ongoing initiatives, which include support for local programs, assistance to individuals in need, and other charitable efforts within the community.

With 75 years of history behind it, the Pancake Festival continues to stand as a cornerstone event in Bedford, bringing together generations of residents in support of a shared cause.
