Tax relief available for Lawrence County residents following Monday’s storms

BEDFORD In the wake of the severe weather that swept through the region this past Monday, Lawrence County Assessor April Stapp Collins is reminding property owners that financial relief is available for those whose homes or structures sustained damage.

Taxpayers who experienced partial or total destruction of real or personal property may be eligible for a property tax reassessment to reflect the current condition of their assets.

To initiate the process, residents must file Form 137R: Petition For Survey And Reassessment – Real and Personal Property Partially Or Totally Destroyed By Disaster. To complete the filing, taxpayers will need to provide one of the following:

  • A copy of an official insurance claim detailing the damage.
  • A professional estimate for repairs (required if the structure is uninsured).
