Becky’s Place launches new dental assistant program to empower local women

BEDFORD Becky’s Place has announced the launch of a new Dental Assistant Training Program, marking a significant step in its mission to provide women with the tools for long-term self-sufficiency. This spring, the pilot program began offering residents and aftercare participants a direct pathway into the healthcare field.

The initiative is designed to remove the financial and educational barriers that often hinder career advancement for those transitioning out of crisis.

The program is made possible through a unique partnership between volunteer expertise and community funding:

  • Professional Instruction: A dedicated volunteer instructor is leading the course, allowing it to be offered at a minimal cost.
  • Financial Assistance: While participants are responsible for books and licensing fees, a $3,000 grant from the Community Foundation Partnership has been secured to help offset these expenses.
  • Enrollment: The inaugural cohort consists of 13 residents and aftercare participants who are currently preparing for their training.

The training program focuses on high-demand skills within the dental industry, ensuring graduates are ready for immediate entry into the workforce.

The curriculum includes:

  • Dental Office Procedures: Mastering the administrative and operational side of a practice.
  • Radiography & Infection Control: Critical technical training for patient safety and diagnostics.
  • Certification Prep: Preparation for state exams and official licensing.

This hands-on approach is intended to build real-world confidence alongside technical proficiency, a combination the organization views as essential for lasting success.

For the women enrolled, the program represents more than just job training; it is an opportunity to pursue long-term goals and establish financial stability. This launch follows other recent successes at the shelter, including two women securing permanent housing this month and several alumnae moving into leadership and business roles in the community.

“This program is another example of how our community helps women not just regain their footing but rise into the lives they’ve always dreamed of,” a representative for Becky’s Place stated.

The organization looks forward to celebrating its first graduating class later this year as they step into their new careers.
