“America in Focus” brings weekly patriotic stories to WBIW ahead of nation’s 250th celebration

BEDFORD — A new weekly radio segment celebrating America’s past and present is now airing on WBIW 1340 AM, bringing a patriotic spotlight to the nation’s 250th anniversary.

“America in Focus,” hosted by Dan Bortner, CEO of the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce, airs each Friday morning at 8:17 a.m. and will continue through July 4 as part of the nation’s semiquincentennial observance.

The series is designed to highlight moments, milestones, and themes that define the American story, offering listeners a brief but meaningful reflection each week. The program’s tagline, “One Minute. One Story. 250 Years of a Nation,” underscores its goal of delivering concise, impactful content tied to the country’s historic anniversary.

Bortner, a longtime community leader and former head of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, brings decades of public service and civic engagement to the segment. He now leads both the Chamber and the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council, roles focused on strengthening the local economy and community connections.

The patriotic tone of “America in Focus” aligns with nationwide efforts to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, a milestone often referred to as the semiquincentennial. Through storytelling and reflection, the segment aims to remind listeners of the values, sacrifices, and achievements that have shaped the nation.

Each installment is brief by design, making it easy for listeners to tune in during their morning routine while still engaging with the broader historical significance of the anniversary.
