Cougars cruise to 5-0 victory over Stars

BNL’s Emma Voris and the Stars fell to Bloomington North on Monday.

BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington North rolled to a 5-0 victory over Bedford North Lawrence during girls high school tennis action on Monday.

The Cougars dropped only six games in the five matches.

Casey O’Connell stopped Emma Conover 6-2, 6-1 at No.1 singles, Sarah Kaviani defeated Jada Key 6-0, 6-1 at No.2, and Mishka Iyler swept past Bailey Fisher 6-0, 6-0 at No.3.

In doubles, Lilia McHaley and Oakley Yoder handled Emma Voris and Elizabeth Miskuf 6-1, 6-1 at No.1, while Ashley Stegemoller and Ally O’Guinn conquered Claire Edwards and Abi Bruner 6-0, 6-0 at No.2.

”We played a really good team, and they had some smart, talented players,” BNL coach Jennifer Edwards said. “Emma Conover and Jada played well at singles, they both had long rallies and so many of those could have gone either way. Our No.1 doubles team had some great points and communicated really well.

”The girls are learning and growing with each match they play. We knew at the beginning of the season that we were going to have a really young team, but with that comes growth and knowledge. We are seeing improvements every match.”

BNL (0-4) will host Bloomington South on Tuesday.
