Martin County celebrates 31st Annual Ag Day at 4-H Fairgrounds

LOOGOOTEE The heart of Martin County’s agricultural community will come together this Saturday for the 31st Annual Martin County Ag Day. The event, a long-standing tradition celebrating the region’s farming heritage, will be held on March 14, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Martin County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Agriculture remains a powerhouse for the local economy. According to the most recent USDA data, Martin County is home to approximately 249 farms covering over 57,000 acres, with the total market value of agricultural products sold exceeding $109 million annually.

The festivities kick off with opening ceremonies and a popular community breakfast. For a $5 donation, attendees can enjoy a hearty meal served by local 4-H Junior Leaders, who traditionally use the event as a community service opportunity to kick off their spring programming.

The morning is designed to be both celebratory and educational, featuring:

  • Agribusiness Displays: Local vendors and equipment dealers showcasing the latest in farming technology and services.
  • Special Recognitions: Honors for local farmers and youth who have made significant contributions to the county’s agricultural landscape over the past year.
  • Educational Exhibits: Information from the Purdue Extension and the Martin County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) regarding conservation tillage, cover crops, and soil health.
  • Petting Farm: A perennial favorite for families, allowing children to get up close with livestock and learn about animal husbandry.

While many associate the region with the rolling hills of Southern Indiana, the local agricultural output is diverse. Martin County ranks significantly in the production of poultry and eggs, which accounts for nearly 74% of local livestock sales. Major crops include soybeans and corn, which together cover more than 28,000 acres of county farmland.

Ag Day is about more than just a breakfast; it’s about connecting our community to the people who put food on their tables. The event also serves as a precursor to the National Ag Day celebrations later in the month, which carry the 2026 theme: “Agriculture: Together We Grow.”
