Commissioners granted permission for organizers to use the historic Williams Covered Bridge from 9 a.m. until dusk on the day of the dinner.

Guests will begin gathering at their tables at 4 p.m., with dinner scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Parking for the event will be available at the nearby Williams Dam Parking Lot.

Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at the Lawrence County Tourism office located at 533 West Main Street in Mitchell. Reservations can also be made by calling 812-849-1090.

The covered bridge dinner began as a bicentennial project in 2018 and has grown into a popular annual tradition. In past years, the event has drawn crowds of up to 350 attendees.

The Williams Covered Bridge itself is a significant piece of local history. Built in 1884 by Joseph J. Daniels, the structure features a Howe Truss design and is one of Indiana’s longest double-span covered bridges. The bridge stretches 402 feet across the East Fork White River, including its overhangs.

Because of its historic importance, the bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Organizers say the annual dinner offers a unique opportunity for residents and visitors to experience the landmark while celebrating local history.
