Friends of Spring Mill invite public to Annual Meeting

MITCHELL – The Friends of Spring Mill State Park are hosting their annual meeting in the Oak Room of the Spring Mill Inn on Monday, March 16th at 6:00 p.m. All members of the Friends of Spring Mill are encouraged to attend. They are also inviting the public to come and learn about the group, which is dedicated to helping the park.

Friends President Teena Ligman said the group looks forward to the annual meeting of the full membership to celebrate their accomplishments over the past year and discuss plans for the upcoming year. Ligman said she is always happy to report on the Friends group.

“We are an amazing team,” Ligman said. “We have different members taking ownership of projects, and together it has really made a difference in what the Park is able to provide.”

Ligman explained members have been working on new displays, webcams, support for events, and a special designation for the Park. Due to the Friends’ work, there have been some pretty significant things done in the Park, and she’s looking forward to telling people about them.  They’ve also got some new items available, such as decks of cards with unique artwork by Becky Mason, booklets on the history of Spring Mill, and paperweights with the mill wheel.  Door prizes will be given out at the meeting, so you might even win one of these items!

“We have a lot of exciting things to share and hope people will come learn what we’ve done in the last year and what we’re working on,” Ligman said. She noted they could use help on some of the projects and ideas for future projects, so more community involvement with the Friends group is welcome. “Who wouldn’t want to help Spring Mill?” Ligman asked. “It’s an incredible place and offers so much for all of us – it’s just nice to be able to give back, and this group gives a lot back and has fun doing it!”

Mark Young

Mark Young, Park Manager, will also give park updates, including what comes next after the vast renovations in the last few years of the Inn, Mill, and Nature Center. Young will be available to explain what the next year might include for park visitors.

There will be light refreshments for those who attend. For more information about the annual meeting, contact Ligman at 812-278-0139 or by email at friendsof.springmillstatepark@yahoo.com.
