Nehemiah Building Project seeks volunteers and families in need of home repairs

SEYMOUR – Seymour 1st Wesleyan Church is inviting community members to get involved in its Nehemiah Building Project, a faith-based outreach program dedicated to helping vulnerable residents with essential home repairs. Known by the motto “Rebuilding Walls – Rebuilding Lives,” the program focuses on serving senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, widows, and families facing hardship throughout the area.

The Nehemiah Building Project provides labor and tools at no cost to homeowners, relying entirely on volunteers who donate their time, skills, and compassion. Services include minor home repairs such as wheelchair ramps, handrails, roofing, wall repair, and limited flooring work. Volunteers also assist with light construction projects, including carpentry, some cement and metal work, minor plumbing and electrical repairs, and interior or exterior painting when needed.

Church leaders say the mission is rooted in meeting real, practical needs while offering dignity, hope, and encouragement to those they serve. Volunteers do not need professional construction backgrounds to participate, as many tasks can be completed with basic skills and a willingness to help. Those with specialized abilities, such as carpentry, welding, or electrical work, are also welcomed and appreciated.

Individuals interested in volunteering or those who need assistance with home repairs are encouraged to contact Pastor Jerry Turner at 505-494-4726 or by email at TrustJesus1st@outlook.com. The church office is located at 101 E. 8th St. in Seymour, and additional information about the ministry is available at seymourfirstwesleyan.org.

Organizers emphasize that the Nehemiah Building Project is about more than repairs—it is about neighbors helping neighbors and strengthening the community one home at a time.
