Bloomington to honor Dr. King with Free Annual Community Pancake Breakfast

BLOOMINGTON As the nation prepares to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Bloomington community is invited to gather for a morning of reflection, service, and connection.

The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department has announced the return of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Pancake Breakfast. This long-standing local tradition will take place on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the Banneker Community Center.

More than just a meal, the breakfast serves as a cornerstone for the city’s MLK Day celebrations. Held at Banneker Community Center at 930 West 7th Street, the event offers residents a space to celebrate Dr. King’s enduring message of justice, unity, and hope.

This breakfast is a heartwarming annual tradition that brings people together for a meaningful morning.

The event is free and inclusive for all ages, providing an environment where neighbors can engage in dialogue and strengthen community bonds over plates of fresh pancakes and juice.

In keeping with Dr. King’s commitment to service, the event relies on the dedication of local volunteers. Community members are encouraged to sign up for various roles, including setup, food preparation, serving meals, and event clean-up.

Those interested in volunteering can register through the City of Bloomington’s parks portal. Please note that volunteers under the age of 18 must provide a signed waiver to participate.

Whether you are looking to volunteer your time or simply share a meal with your neighbors, the City invites everyone to join in this celebration of progress and community spirit.
