Indiana State Police mourns the loss of K-9 Barker

JASPER — The Indiana State Police (ISP) is sharing news of the passing of K-9 Barker, the loyal dual-purpose partner to Trooper Jacob Lauer. Barker was found deceased on Saturday, October 25, 2025, due to unforeseen medical reasons, with no foul play suspected.

Barker proudly served the Indiana State Police as a dual-purpose K-9, trained in both patrol duties and narcotics detection. During his service, Barker was instrumental in numerous criminal investigations, narcotics seizures, suspect apprehensions, and community demonstrations, helping to keep communities safer.

“K-9s are more than just working partners; they become part of our family,” said Lieutenant Brock Werne.

Trooper Lauer and the entire ISP family deeply feel Barker’s loss. The department acknowledged that Barker and Trooper Lauer formed a remarkable team, known for their dedication, drive, and professionalism, and stated that Barker’s service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
