VFW 9107 Gun Shoot kicks off Saturday, supporting local families this Christmas

The crack of shotguns and the spirit of giving return this weekend as the VFW Post 9107 in Mitchell kicks off its annual Gun Shoot, running every Saturday from now through March. Starting at 10 a.m. and wrapping up around noon, this long-standing Mitchell tradition combines friendly competition, community fellowship, and a cause that touches the hearts of local families.

Open to the public, the shoot is 12-gauge only, and participants will compete for some of the tastiest prizes in town. Winners get to choose from a variety of meat products, including ham, bacon, and more, making this event as rewarding as it is fun.

But beyond the competition, the Gun Shoot serves a higher purpose. Proceeds go directly toward providing Christmas for around 40 local families, with a special focus on children under the age of 13. For many, the generosity of this event helps ensure a brighter holiday season filled with warmth and joy.

Organizers say the rules are simple—just show up any Saturday before 10 a.m. to get in on the action. No pre-registration is required, making it easy for anyone to take part.

So, if you’re looking for a Saturday morning filled with tradition, camaraderie, and a chance to give back, head to VFW 9107 in Mitchell and join in the Gun Shoot. Come for the competition, stay for the cause, and help make the holidays brighter for families right here in our community.
