BEDFORD — Craig Turpen was sworn in today by Judge Nathan Nikirk as the newest at-large member of the Bedford City Council. Turpen was elected in a Republican caucus earlier this week to fill the vacant council seat, defeating Nathan Watson for the position.

In remarks following the caucus, Turpen expressed gratitude to the precinct committee members and community members who supported him throughout the process. “Thank you to all the precinct committee persons who voted in the caucus this evening to fill the vacant City of Bedford At-Large Council seat. I am pleased to announce I won the election and will be sworn in tomorrow morning,” Turpen said. “Thank you to all who supported me. Thanks to Judy Carlisle for the introduction. Thank you to Chase Cummings and his team who ran the caucus. Thank you to my opponent Nathan Watson for being willing to run for the position. I look forward to representing the citizens of Bedford on the City Council.”
Turpen previously announced his candidacy for the vacancy in late August, citing a commitment to serve Bedford residents and help guide the city’s future. He replaces Daniel Bortner, who resigned in August.
