BEDFORD — Altrusa of Bedford has opened orders for its annual nut sale, the club’s only yearly fundraiser, with proceeds directly supporting a wide range of community programs.

“This is the only fundraiser we do annually,” said Altrusa member Becky Bailey. “Our main focus is literacy, but we do so much more.”
Funds raised from the sale help the club buy books, coloring books, and supplies for children at local Head Start, Playful Pathways, and Early Journeys programs. Altrusa also supports reading initiatives at area schools, purchased a printer for the Bedford Middle School media department, and contributes year-round to the CORE Nursing Home in Bedford by delivering items three to four times a year and making lap robes for residents.

Beyond literacy, the club lends support to several community organizations. Members have provided ongoing help to AGAPE House and Becky’s Place, where they maintain a dedicated room designed for women with multiple children. They also partner with the Lions Club during the annual Fall Flapjack Feast, and they purchased learning modules for the LARC Center to assist instructors in teaching life skills.
“We purchased the modules in the hope of the individuals being more independent and living on their own,” Bailey said.
Nut sale orders are due with payment at the time of purchase, by cash or check only. Products will be delivered before Thanksgiving. Orders may be placed by calling Bailey at 812-583-0961 or by contacting any Altrusa member.
