BEDFORD — The 2025 Claude Akins Memorial Golf Classic set a new milestone this year at Otis Park Golf Course, where a record 112 teams and 672 players teed off in the six-person scramble format. The event continues to honor Bedford native and Hollywood actor Claude Akins while raising funds for scholarships and community projects.

Proceeds from the classic support local initiatives, including the Bedford Recreation Foundation Scholarship and the Akins Scholarship for graduates of Bedford North Lawrence High School. Funds are also directed to recreation and development projects across the community, helping to sustain programs that improve local quality of life.
The tournament’s success was made possible not only by the players but also by the volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to keep the event running smoothly. Organizers also extended their gratitude to a long list of sponsors whose generosity ensured the tournament’s impact.
Major supporters included Bedford Federal Savings Bank, Hoosier Hills Credit Union, German American, Walmart, Resource Services, Big O Tires, Bedford Body & Paint, Hawkins Bailey Warehouse, N&S Property Group, Parker Group, Regions Private Wealth, City of Bedford, and many more. Additional sponsors such as Indiana Steel & Engineering Corp., Otis Park Men’s Club, Thomas Insurance Services, Tri-County Hydraulics, Blue & Co., Cook Medical, McIntyre Bros., Judge Nikirk & Mrs. Amy Nikirk, WBIW 1340 AM, and dozens of local businesses and families contributed to the event’s record-setting year.

“The Claude Akins Memorial Golf Classic would not be possible without the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of our sponsors,” organizers said. “This tournament continues to thrive because of the community’s support.”
