BEDFORD — Students at Shawswick Elementary will have the chance to lace up their sneakers and hit the track this fall as the school launches its Running Club for 3rd–6th graders, beginning Sept. 8.
The club will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 to 4 p.m. through October 7, with sessions designed to help students build endurance, set goals, and have fun with friends. Each practice will include warm-ups, running activities, and cool-downs, all aimed at teaching proper running form, teamwork, and confidence.

Coach Mr. Richards will lead the program. “This is a chance for students to learn healthy habits, encourage one another, and enjoy the challenge of running,” school officials said.
To participate, students must have a signed permission form turned in by Sept. 8 and bring running shoes, appropriate clothes, and a water bottle to each session. Good behavior is expected, and members are required to run during practice. A three-strike policy will be in place for students unwilling to participate or who repeatedly misbehave.
The first practice is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 9. In case of bad weather, the club may meet in the gym, but if the gym is unavailable, practice will be canceled. Parents will be kept informed through the Dojo app once rosters are finalized.
Pickup is required by 4:10 p.m., and repeated late pickups may result in dismissal from the program. Volunteers are welcome, and parents interested in helping out or seeking more information can contact Mr. Richards at richardsz@nlcs.k12.in.us.
Organizers say the club is about more than miles — it’s about instilling perseverance, building friendships, and celebrating small victories along the way.
