New 1.6-mile trail opens in Jasper; connecting key community hubs

JASPER — The city of Jasper and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) celebrated the official opening of the 30th/Northwood Trail on Thursday. The new 1.6-mile asphalt and concrete trail represents a significant expansion of the city’s trail system, enhancing connectivity for residents.

The city constructed the trail with the help of a $2 million dedicated grant from the DNR, a key partner in the project. The new route travels along Northwood Avenue west of U.S. 231 and along 30th Street to the east. A new pedestrian crossing was also added at the intersection to ensure safety for trail users.

This new trail is a critical link in the city’s overall network, connecting to the existing Buffalo Trace Connector trail to the east and the St. Charles/Portersville trail to the west. These connections provide residents with safe routes to local schools, parks, and businesses. The project aligns with Jasper’s ongoing efforts to expand its recreational amenities and improve the quality of life for its community members. The city also features the 2.1-mile Jasper Riverwalk and the 75-acre Parklands of Jasper.
