YORKTOWN – Despite the summer heat, 14-year-old Emmett Kelly of Yorktown is making a significant impact on his community by mowing lawns for free as part of a unique nonprofit challenge. Kelly is aiming to complete 50 lawns, combining a fun goal with impactful community service.

When not engaged in football or wrestling practice, Kelly dedicates his summer days to cutting grass, driven by a desire to give back. “When my dad died, the community helped my mom with presents for me and my brother,” Kelly shared with Fox59. “So when this came, I just wanted to give back.”
Emmett is participating in “Raising Men Lawncare,” a nonprofit organization that assists disabled veterans, the elderly, and individuals unable to maintain their yards. Each lawn presents a new challenge for Kelly, with some requiring significant effort due to overgrown grass.
One of his regular clients, Catherine Ullman, expressed immense gratitude. “I felt like it was such a blessing,” Ullman said, noting that her grass sometimes grew so high the city threatened fines. “It’s so hard for us we can’t get out and do it ourselves. So it’s such a blessing to us.”

Rachel Kelly, Emmett’s mother and manager, praised her son’s work ethic. “He’s always looking to work. That’s probably one of the best skills he has; he’s not afraid to work hard,” she said.
With 36 lawns already under his belt, Emmett plans to continue even after reaching his goal of 50. He credits his mother for his dedication: “My mom is my everything. She’s my supporter, my cheerleader, she’s my manager. She’s the one who keeps me going every time.”
