Vincennes University to launch phlebotomy technician program in Seymour this fall

SEYMOUR — Vincennes University Continuing Education is set to offer a comprehensive Phlebotomy Technician training course this fall at the Jackson County Learning Center, providing local residents an affordable, hands-on pathway into the healthcare field.

The 11-week program begins August 18 and runs through October 27, 2025, with classes held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The training includes a total of 130 hours: 90 classroom hours and 40 clinical hours, covering essential skills required for entry-level employment in hospitals, clinics, or laboratories.

Students who complete the course will be eligible to take the national certification exam to become a certified phlebotomist. The curriculum covers venipuncture techniques, medical terminology, safety procedures, infection control, patient interaction, and hands-on training using phlebotomy equipment.

The program costs $1,995, which includes all textbooks and national certification test fees. It does not include the Hepatitis B vaccine, which students may be required to obtain independently depending on clinical site requirements.

Classes will be held at the Jackson County Learning Center at 323 Dupont Drive, Seymour, IN 47274

This noncredit program is open to individuals seeking a fast-track entry into the medical field without the time or expense of a traditional college degree. It’s particularly beneficial for aspiring medical assistants, lab technicians, or those looking to transition careers.
