City of Mitchell offices to close June 19 for Juneteenth

MITCHELL — City offices in Mitchell will be closed on Thursday, June 19, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday, officials announced.

As a result of the closure, the city’s regular Thursday trash collection route will be delayed and picked up on Friday, June 20.

Juneteenth, recognized as a federal holiday, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and marks the date in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the end of slavery.

City officials urge residents to plan accordingly for any service needs and thank the community for its cooperation.
