BROWNSTOWN – Bedford North Lawrence claimed its first boys track team sectional championship in six years on Thursday.
The Stars won two events, including a title clinching effort from Tripp Stahl in the shot put, while totaling 130 points in the 10-team field. Brownstown was second with 128, while Mitchell was seventh with 19.

Stahl won the shot with a huge throw of 51–0.75 on his final attempt, and Braydon Patterson won the high jump with only one attempt. The top three in each event advanced to the regional at Bloomington North on May 29.
BNL won its sixth sectional title, its first since 2019.
“Wow, what a meet,” BNL coach Brett Deckard said. “Every kid did their best, every point counted. As the running events ended, we were down two points but the shot put was still going on. A huge crowd surrounded the shot put, cheering them on, and Tripp and Orion (Hill) preformed great, giving us the win.”
Patterson cleared 6-0 to take the high jump.
Other regional qualifiers for the Stars included Luke Morris (third in the 110 high hurdles in 15.68, and second in the 300 hurdles in 40.92), Frank Decker (second in the pole vault at 12-0), Patterson (second in the long jump at 20-1.5) and Hill (second in the discus at 158-2).
Mitchell’s Nate Robertson won the discus at 161-9.
Qualifiers from sectionals at Bloomington, Columbus and Madison will also compete in the regional. The top three in each event will advance to the IHSAA state finals at North Central in Indianapolis on June 6.
