Lawrence County nears completion of paving season, eyes chip and seal projects

BEDFORD– Lawrence County is nearing the finish line for its current paving season, with only a few roads remaining on the schedule. Brian Sowder, Director of the Lawrence County Highway Department, announced that the paving crews have been highly productive.

“We have three roads left, Stonington, Leatherwood, and Glenview Addition,” Sowder stated. “While no specific dates have been set for these final paving projects, their completion will mark the end of the current paving cycle.”

Following the completion of these roads, Sowder will turn his attention to the highway budget to assess what additional projects, if any, can be undertaken. The department will then determine which roads qualify for chip and seal treatment.

In addition to paving efforts, highway crews are also actively engaged in routine maintenance tasks, including mowing and cleaning the county’s bridges.
