Lawrence County completes storm damage report for federal aid consideration

BEDFORD– Lawrence County Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer has finalized and submitted reports detailing storm and flood damage to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Homeland Security. This comprehensive effort aims to potentially secure federal aid for residents and repair critical infrastructure in Bedford, Mitchell, and Oolitic.

The reports document damage and flooding sustained during severe storms that impacted the area on and after March 15th.

“We are now waiting to hear from government officials on whether we qualify,” Luchauer stated. She added, “We have gotten some very good feedback. The information was forwarded to President Trump; hopefully, he will declare a disaster. We hope to hear something in a couple of weeks.”

The potential aid would provide crucial support for those affected by the storms and help fund repairs to bridges and roads damaged by the high winds and floodwaters.
