Ugly Duck Derby set to quack off for charity

BEDFORD — The annual Ugly Duck Derby, a much-anticipated event benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County, is set to take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the John Lowery Municipal Pool in Bedford. This year’s event promises the same quirky fun and community spirit, with updated options for adopting ducks.

The premise remains the same: thousands of numbered rubber ducks are “adopted” by community members for a $5 donation each. These ducks are then released into the pool for a race, with the owners of the first ducks to cross the finish line winning prizes. All proceeds directly support the vital programs offered by the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County.

This year, the Boys & Girls Club offers several ways to participate in the Ugly Duck Derby and support their cause by adopting ducks:

  • Individual Duck: For a $5 donation, you can adopt one duck.
  • Quack Pack: Adopt five ducks for $20.
  • Flock of Thirteen: Increase your chances with 13 ducks for $50.
  • Super Flock: For $100, you can adopt 30 ducks.

Tickets for the Ugly Duck Derby can be purchased by contacting Holly Davis directly at (812) 797-0923.

In addition to the duck race, the event on May 31st will also feature a FREE Community Swim Day at the John Lowery Municipal Pool, making it a fun-filled afternoon for the entire family.

The Ugly Duck Derby has become a cornerstone fundraising event for the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County, allowing them to continue providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for the area’s youth. By adopting a duck, community members not only have a chance to win prizes but also directly contribute to a worthy cause.
