Indiana 4-H participants with livestock projects are reminded that Thursday, May 15, is the deadline for animal enrollment. To be eligible for exhibition at county and state fairs, all animals must be correctly and completely identified in the Indiana 4-H Online system (https://v2.4honline.com) by the end of the day.
The Indiana 4-H Animal Identification deadline also includes the submission of required DNA hair samples and animal leases to the local Purdue Extension Office by the same date. Failure to meet the May 15 deadline will result in the ineligibility of animals to be shown at the county and/or state fair.
DNA hair samples are mandatory for all swine, sheep, meat goats, dairy cattle, and beef cattle intended for exhibition at the Indiana State Fair 4-H Show. Participants can find detailed animal identification requirements at purdue.ag/4HAnimalIDRequirements.
The Indiana 4-H program has also created a dedicated Animal Identification landing site (Purdue.ag/4HAnimalID) that offers helpful resources, including step-by-step instructions for 4-H Online animal identification and DNA sample collection.
4-H members with questions or who require assistance with the 4-H Online system are encouraged to contact their local Purdue Extension Office. Organizers are also urging participants to complete the identification process well in advance of the deadline to allow for local support. The announcement originated from Owen County 4-H in Indiana.
