Stars card wins over Braves, Mustangs at Otis

BNL’s Coleson Stiles tracks the fate of a pitch shot on the fourth hole at Otis Park on Thursday.

BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence’s Tyler Bellush didn’t let a little blood slow him down. Who said golfers weren’t tough?

Bellush battled through an annoying nose bleed to post a 1-over 38, earning medalist honors while leading the Stars to wins over Brownstown and Edgewood during high school golf action on Thursday afternoon on the front nine at Otis Park.

The Stars carded a team total of 166, the Braves finished with 171, while the Mustangs fired 179.

“Tyler was really consistent,” BNL coach Trey Turner said. “I’m really happy with the way that he is striking the ball right now.

”It was good to get a win on your home course. I thought we did a great job of keeping the ball in play. We didn’t make a ton of big numbers and were able to throw in a couple of birdies.”

Coleston Stiles (41), Evan Tillett (43) and Hudson Martin (44) completed the scoring for BNL.

Smith Hackman paced Brownstown with a 40, while Calvin McDonald had 41 for Edgewood.

The Stars will compete in the Bloomington North Invitational on Saturday.

BNL’s Hudson Martin follows his tee shot on the second hole.
