BEDFORD – Injuries and absences forced Bedford North Lawrence to reconstruct its lineup. Edgewood took advantage of the shuffling.
The Mustangs dropped only one game on the five courts while cruising to a quick 5-0 victory over the Stars on Thursday afternoon. BNL had only one position with its normal lineup.
”That’s not my usual book,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “The girls played their hardest. We had two girls out either due to injury or a senior banquet.”
Edgewood swept the singles without a blemish on the scoreboard. Marley Jackson stopped Laura Wires 6-0, retired (when Wires had to withdraw with a medical issue) at the top of the card, Cora Jones conquered Anne Curtis 6-0, 6-0 at No.2, and Ellie Jackson swept Abby Colgan 6-0, 6-0 at No.3.
In doubles, Sophia Kapperman and Wren Millick rolled past Jada Key and Bailey Guthrie 6-0, 6-0 at No.1. BNL claimed its only game at No.2 doubles, as Ashlyn Schaeffer and Addy Hash eased past Claire Edwards and Emma Voris 6-0, 6-1.
”Our doubles teams were showing their skills, either at the baseline or at the net,” Dillman said. “Bailey moved from singles to doubles, and she was wailing on the balls from the baseline. We have to get her into position more to get it away from the net player.
“Claire and Emma had another match where their heads just weren’t in it right away. There were some bad calls that messed with them, but that’s something we have to play through. They will grow from this match.”
BNL will host Bloomington North on Friday.
