Hoosier Uplands receives $110,000 grant to boost housing stability for vulnerable residents

MITCHELL—Hoosier Uplands Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has been awarded $110,000 in grant funding from the Old National Bank Foundation and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis (FHLBank Indianapolis) to enhance housing stability for vulnerable individuals within its housing portfolio. The grant was made possible through FHLBank Indianapolis’ Community Multiplier—Member Match program.

The $110,000 will enable Hoosier Uplands to fund an on-site Resident Services Coordinator. This dedicated individual will provide crucial case management services, connecting formerly homeless elderly residents with essential healthcare, mental health support, and other vital community resources. The coordinator will work closely with each resident to assess their unique needs, develop personalized plans, foster social connections, and support them in achieving their personal goals. This person-centered approach aims to address the specific challenges this vulnerable population faces, ensuring they can maintain stable housing and overall well-being.

David L. Miller, CEO of Hoosier Uplands EDC

“This funding is a crucial investment in the lives of our most vulnerable residents,” stated David L. Miller, CEO of Hoosier Uplands EDC. “With the support of Old National Bank Foundation and FHLBank Indianapolis, we can provide tailored, one-on-one services that make a lasting difference in the lives of formerly homeless elderly individuals. This grant directly supports our mission to create stable, supportive housing where residents can age in place with dignity, safety, and access to the care they need.”

Joe Kiser, President of Old National Bank Foundation

Joe Kiser, President of Old National Bank Foundation, added, “We are so grateful to the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis for continuing to provide innovative opportunities for our community partners. This investment will catalyze Hoosier Uplands EDC to reach deeper into the community and help even more people. Old National Bank is proud to have played our part and continues our deep commitment to the community!”

The Community Multiplier – Member Match program is a new initiative from FHLBank Indianapolis designed to support targeted affordable housing projects that fall outside their other grant programs. It offers grants ranging from $25,000 to $125,000 to non-profit organizations headquartered in Indiana or Michigan who partner with an FHLBank Indianapolis member financial institution on these initiatives. With a 10% matching funds commitment from the member financial institution, FHLBank Indianapolis has allocated $5 million to the program, open until October 1, 2025, or until funds are exhausted.
