Final Faith & Housing Summit address housing crisis in Bedford

BEDFORD – On May 1, over 60 individuals convened in Bedford to explore how local faith communities can leverage their resources to support residents in securing safe and stable housing.

The Faith & Housing Summit brought together inspired speakers and attendees dedicated to tackling the region’s pressing housing crisis.

The summit was a collaborative effort, hosted in partnership with Prosperity Indiana, Heading Home, and the Lawrence County Housing Taskforce. The organizers also expressed their gratitude to numerous co-sponsors for their support, including Regional Opportunity Initiatives, IU Center for Rural Engagement, the Lawrence County Community Foundation, Stone City Alliance for Recovery & Hope, Becky’s Place, and First Baptist Church. Local food sponsors Magic Morning Bakery, Empire Donut Company, Smokin’ Jim’s BBQ, ND’s Country Soul, and Thomas Insurance Services were also acknowledged for their contributions.

The Lawrence County Housing Taskforce will now use the insights and opportunities discussed at the summit to further its efforts in addressing the community’s housing challenges. The public is invited to join the taskforce for its monthly meetings, held on the last Wednesday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the StoneGate Arts & Education Center in Bedford. The next meeting is scheduled for May 28th. This provides an ongoing platform for community members to participate in finding solutions to the local housing crisis.
