“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” comes to Little Theater

BEDFORD – The enduring musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, is set to captivate audiences with its reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph. Directed by Aaron Baker, the production promises a vibrant and tuneful experience for all ages.

Told entirely through song and guided by a Narrator, the musical follows Joseph, the favored son of Jacob, as he navigates the complexities of family, betrayal, and ultimately, triumph. Sold into slavery by his eleven brothers, Joseph finds himself in Egypt, where his ability to interpret dreams leads him from imprisonment to the right hand of an Elvis-inspired Pharaoh. His newfound power ultimately leads to a reunion with his family.

The production showcases a diverse range of musical styles, including French ballad parody in “Those Canaan Days,” country-western in “One More Angel in Heaven,” and calypso in “Benjamin Calypso.” Audiences can also look forward to the well-known classics “Any Dream Will Do” and “Close Every Door.”

Originally conceived as a 15-minute children’s concert in 1968, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” has evolved into a full-length professional musical, enjoyed by schools and audiences worldwide. Its Broadway premiere in 1982 garnered six Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical.
