BEDFORD – Kurt Godlevske, who guided Bedford North Lawrence boys basketball for two seasons, has stepped down as head coach.
Godlevske recorded a 22-22 record with the Stars, including 9-13 this past season. He was also extremely successful as the girls coach with the Stars, posting a 120-41 record in seven seasons, culminating with an undefeated charge to the 2013 Class 4A state championship. He has resigned to care for his parents in Michigan.
”It was hard to leave, because from a young age, this is all I wanted to do,” Godlevske said. “I wanted play for Coach (Dan) Bush and be a part of BNL basketball. That was my dream and goal, so having the opportunity to be a part of the girls program and follow one of the greats in Coach (Pete) Pritchett was phenomenal.
”To coach the program I grew up admiring, and admiring all those players that were there before me, was special. I wasn’t looking to make the decision that I have to make, but you get one chance to help your parents and help your family.”
Godlevske also got the opportunity to coach his son Noah during his first season.
“That was pretty special,” he said. “To have my son be a part of that was something we will never forget.
”I was proud to represent the school and community, proud to be a part of the program. I will miss the boys and my staff, I thought we had a really strong staff and were doing some similar things to what transpired with the girls program. We were making some strides.”
Following his stint with the BNL girls, Godlevske coached the Butler women’s program for eight seasons and was named Big East Coach of the Year in 2019.
Godlevske was the 10th head coach in program history. BNL’s overall record is 768-422.
