Seymour walks it off in 7th to clip BNL 3-2

SEYMOUR – Brady Harpe delivered a walk-off RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, capping Seymour’s comeback for a 3-2 triumph over Bedford North Lawrence during high school baseball action on Monday.

The Owls (6-1) produced the winning run when Parker Thompson led off the final frame with a sharp double to left. With one out, he went to third on a ground out, setting up Harpe to end the clash with a single to center on an 0-2 pitch from BNL reliever Cal Gates.

”Tough one tonight,” BNL coach Steven McNabb said. “That’s a team possibly considered a sectional favorite with lots of experience, and we went toe-to-toe with them at their place. We are in a good place.”

BNL scored first in the first as Cal Gates walked and later scored on Tate Tanksley’s groundout. The Stars took a 2-0 lead in the third when Jackson Jones singled and Cam Gates singled, with Jones racing home on an outfield error.

The Owls started their rally in the fourth. Mikey Wright walked, stole second, took third on a fly out and scored on a balk. Seymour forced a 2-2 deadlock in the sixth as Braylon Busby walked, Wright was intentionally walked following a sacrifice bunt, and Tylan Nicholson delivered a two-out RBI single to left.

BNL (4-3 with the end of three-game winning streak) managed only two hits. Harpe worked the first six innings for the Owls and struck out seven. BNL starter Cutler Chastain went 5 2/3 innings and fanned eight while allowing only four hits.

“Credit to their two guys keeping us off balance at the plate,” McNabb said. “They did a nice job. We didn’t get the timely hit when we needed it.

“Cutler continues to throw exceptionally well. No moment is too big for him and he wants the baseball. I love that about him.”

The Stars will visit Trinity Lutheran on Thursday.
