South cruises to 5-0 win over BNL

BNL’s Jada Key hits a forehand return. The Stars dropped a 5-0 decision at South on Tuesday.

BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington South swept to a 5-0 victory over Bedford North Lawrence during girls high school tennis action on Tuesday.

The Panthers dropped only nine games in 10 sets, but BNL coach Ian Dillman was pleased with BNL’s competitiveness.

“This was a great match for BNL,” Dillman said. “South is always a strong team, and my girls played their all. There’s no shame in losing to a great team, the only thing you can do is get better and learn from your losses.”

South’s Carla Demeter topped Emma Conover 6-2, 6-2 at No.1 singles, Hannah Vandeventer stopped Jada Key 6-0, 6-1 at No.2, and Clara Tweedie rolled past Ann Curtis 6-0, 6-0 at No.3.

“Emma had another great match,” Dillman said. “Her game is really coming along. She was moving all over the court and even moving up to the net, messing up the rhythm of her opponent.”

In doubles, South’s Everly Clark and Quinn Reynolds toppled Lauren Salzmann and Laura Wires 6-1, 6-1 at No.1, while Mira Koduri and Sydney Gady cruised past Emma Voris and Claire Edwards 6-1, 6-1 at No.2.

”One doubles held their own against a strong team,” Dillman said. “Lauren was great at the net and helping her partner with doubles strategies. She’s doing a great job of leading doubles and staying in the game.”

The Stars will host Linton on Thursday.
