BEDFORD – A Williams man was arrested on drug charges on April 12 after a Lawrence County deputy responded to a call of a driver slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle at Kindred Spirits on L Street.
Police detained Jeremiah J. Baker, 27, of Williams, on multiple drug charges.

According to the affidavit, officers were dispatched to Kindred Spirits after a report of a male slumped over the steering wheel of an SUV. Upon arrival, Captain Lemke made contact with Baker. IU Health ambulance staff arrived and determined that Baker’s vitals were fine, and he refused medical treatment.
Baker’s driving status was suspended, so he was advised to arrange for a valid driver to pick up the vehicle as Baker exited the vehicle, Sgt. Toby Gerkin observed a glass smoking device in the driver’s seat, which appeared to be coated in a white substance.
Officers detained Baker and located additional items during a search of his person, including another glass smoking device with white residue, a cut plastic straw with white residue, a glass vial containing a white rock-like substance, a plastic container with 13 white pills imprinted with “M” and “2”, and two bags containing steel-wool like material.
A probable cause search of the vehicle yielded only the initially located smoking device. The white rock-like substance field-tested positive for cocaine, and the pills were preliminarily identified as Hydromorphone Hydrochloride, a Schedule 2 controlled substance. An INSPECT report confirmed that Baker did not have a valid prescription for Hydromorphone Hydrochloride.
While at the jail, officers found marijuana in Baker’s coat pocket.
Baker was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, possession of a Schedule 2 controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
