Stars split first two games in Castle Invite

BNL’s Karsyn Coleman earned the win in the first game of the Castle Invitational on Friday night.

NEWBURGH – Bedford North Lawrence split its first two games in the power-packed Castle Invitational during high school softball action on Friday night.

The Stars (7-3) opened the 24-team event with a 5-1 victory over Jasper, then suffered a 20-6 loss in five innings to Brownsburg in the second contest.

In the victory over the Wildcats, Karsyn Coleman and Macee Nicholson combined to scatter six hits in the circle, while Nicholson was the offensive catalyst with three hits (including two doubles) and three RBIs.

BNL scored three runs in the third as Nicholson cracked a two-out, two-run double to left, and she scored when Coleman reached on an error. The Stars added two runs in the seventh on an outfield error and Nicholson’s second run-scoring double.

Coleman earned the win, working around five walks in four innings.

In the second game, the Bulldogs exploded for 13 runs in the second inning. Brownsburg roughed up BNL pitching for 18 hits. Ashley Sylvia was 4 for 4 with 6 RBIs, while Jocelyn Hornett was 3 for 3, including a home run.

Sara Williams and Ava Ratliff had two hits each for BNL.

BNL will finish the event with two games on Saturday.
