INDIANA – April marks National Donate Life Month, a time dedicated to honoring the generosity of organ and tissue donors and raising awareness about the critical need for life-saving transplants.
Across the nation, over 103,000 individuals are awaiting organ transplants, with more than 1,300 of those being Hoosiers. Tragically, 17 people die each day due to the lack of available organs.

The impact of organ and tissue donation is profound. A single organ donor can save up to eight lives, and a tissue donor can improve the lives of more than 75 people.
Donate Life Indiana urges residents to consider becoming organ and tissue donors, emphasizing that anyone can register regardless of age or medical history. They offer five convenient ways for Hoosiers to say “yes” to donation:
- Online Registration: Visit DonateLifeIndiana.org.
- BMV Registration: Register while conducting business at any Bureau of Motor Vehicles branch.
- DNR License Registration: Register when applying for hunting, fishing, or trapping licenses through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
- Professional Licensing: Register when applying for a professional license through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.
- iPhone/iPad Health App: Register through the Health app on Apple devices.
Over 4.4 million Hoosiers have registered as organ and tissue donors, contributing to the national total of 170 million registered donors.

Donate Life Indiana hopes that by highlighting the importance of donation during National Donate Life Month, more individuals will choose to give life and help those in need of a transplant.
