Mitchell senior Anna Sowders named DAR Good Citizen

MITCHELL—The John Wallace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has recognized Anna Sowders as a DAR Good Citizen through its annual scholarship program, which evaluates students on dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.

Anna M. Sowders, daughter of Jean and Matt Sowders, was selected as the Mitchell High School John Wallace DAR Good Citizen.

Sowders, a senior, has compiled an impressive resume of academic and athletic achievements. She serves as president of the National Honor Society and the senior class, having previously led her freshman class in the same capacity.

As varsity basketball team captain, Sowders balances her athletic commitments with participation in numerous school organizations, including Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Peer Leaders, and the Academic Team. Her golf accomplishments include three years as an IHSAA Regional Qualifier and recognition as an ISHGCA Girls Golf Academic All-State Team Member.

Sowders’ academic honors include being named a National Rural and Small Town Scholar by the College Board and maintaining Highest Distinction Honor Roll status. She has expanded her horizons through civic engagement as a Lugar Symposium Delegate and Indiana State Senate Page. During her sophomore year, she gained international experience as an exchange student in Germany.

The DAR Good Citizens Program includes a scholarship component requiring students to complete a written essay.
