MADISON CO. – The Indiana State Police, in collaboration with the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office, has identified the man involved in the police action shooting on Wednesday, January 29, as 33-year-old Blake Lawrence Brown of Anderson.
The incident occurred around 4:35 p.m. when officers from the Pendleton Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a man walking on Interstate 69 near the 219-mile marker (Pendleton/Lapel exit). During their interaction, Brown produced a knife, and despite repeated verbal commands from officers to drop it, he advanced toward them aggressively. A Madison County deputy deployed a Taser, but it was ineffective. As a result, a Pendleton officer fired his weapon, striking Brown.
Officers immediately rendered aid, and Brown was transported to IU Health Saxony, where he was later pronounced deceased. The officer’s identity will be released later, and the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
This remains an ongoing criminal investigation. Once completed, the case will be given to the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office for a full review. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
